Botley Market Hall, which is run by a local charity, has had to close its doors, like all other community buildings, during the current Covid19 pandemic.
The Hall Trustees have, however been working hard to plan for the re-opening of the Hall in September. They have consulted the regular users to find out their hopes, plans and expectations. They are continually monitoring all the Government, and other, regulations and guidelines relating to the re-opening of public buildings, and are working to implement all these. As a result, all those planning to hire the Hall from September, can be assured that it will be fully compliant, clean and safe. However, the Trustees stress that hirers also have a responsibility and duty to ensure the safety of their members and the Trustees will be advising hirers accordingly.
Such actions and precautions, taken by the Trustees, and by hires, will include cleaning, sanitising, entrances and exits, distancing, ventilation and other items.
The Trustees are confident that the Hall will re-open safely. They are keen to hear the concerns and ideas of hirers, in particular those clubs which may have fewer members than before because of uncertainties over going out – the Trustees will look at ways of meeting these needs so that all clubs and societies will not be excluded
On this site, you can find out more about the hall, about the activities that go on here, and also about how to book any of our facilities.
About the Hall
Situated at the heart of the village of Botley, in the High Street, is Botley Market Hall, a 19th Century Grade 2 Listed Building – it is Botley’s “Village Hall”. Although old, the Hall is a building of great character, and has been upgraded and improved over the years so that it now has all the modern facilities to be expected of a community centre – fully accessible to the infirm and people with disabilities, WiFi, public address system, excellent acoustics, modernised kitchen, modern heating and comfortable seating. Not surprising, therefore, that it is well used for all sorts of purposes – leisure, education, sport, creative and big events. It is also popular for private functions such as wedding receptions.
The Market Hall was donated to the village for the benefit of everyone in the community, regardless of age, sexual orientation, religion or disability. It is now owned and run by a local charity, recognised by the Charity Commission. Dependent totally on local voluntary effort, both in terms of running the Hall and raising fundraising, the Hall is well managed by a team of Trustees and volunteer helpers, who work with Local Authorities and local organisations to ensure the Hall meets the needs of the local community.
Groups which use the Hall include badminton, WI, gardening club, pre-school, dance, keep fit, yoga, Irish Dancing, Scrabble, Bridge and many more. Some clubs will welcome new members – ring 07733 553408 to find out when they meet or find out more from the noticeboard outside the Market Hall.
The Hall may be booked for private or business functions, for more information please look at our booking page.
